Things to do in Sardinia:

Archeological wonders, otherworldly beaches, and ancient cultural traditions

Sardinia, Italy’s wild island, is truly an enigma.  Being the Mediterranean’s second largest island, it is filled with many of the most spectacular beaches in the world, dramatic cliffs and gorges, high mountain peaks, medieval villages and an assortment of historic and prehistoric ruins that are unparalleled in the world.  Sardinia travel offers you the opportunity to experience a unique culture, complete with pagan festivals, lovely traditional costumes and a language that bears little resemblance to modern Italian.  While known throughout the travel world for its Costa Smeralda, playground of the rich and famous, the bulk of the things to do in Sardinia are perfect for those intrepid explorers who are looking for something a little different.

Adventurers will love wandering the almost empty parts of the La Maddalena Archipelago, scrambling over paths that lead to picture perfect turquoise waters.

For biking or walking in Sardinia, check out the walls of Catalan influenced Alghero or climb the hills of Caglieri’s Castello neighborhood for winding roads with treasures around every corner.

Explore the iconoclastic Barbagian villages in the Nuoro province where you will find some of the Sardinia’s best wines and most interesting artwork.

One of the most incredible things to do in Sardinia is to come during Carnevale to experience completely unique masked pagan festivals.

You’ll be dazed by the region’s ancient Nuraghi; pre-historic structures from as old as 1900 BCE, which dot the landscape.

Rock climbers can’t miss Sardinia’s own “Grand Canyon”, with its limestone cliffs soaring up to 500 meters high.

While those looking for experiences that are just a bit more tame can head to Sardinia’s numerous mountains and caves.

Ahh, the food! Anyone going to Sardinia must try the many local specialties that the island is known for. Your best bet is to either stay at or visit an agriturismo. I guarantee it will be one of the best meals you’ve ever had.
